Ferrari F1 Clienti and XX-programme visit Spa
Spa Francorchamps A back to back Tuesday on the Spa Francorchamps circuit. This time it was more or less to enjoy myself, rather than hunting for amazing photographs, as you may expect from me ;-)
As I wait outside for the red light to enter the paddock, the Ferrari XX-Series are already circling around the famous Belgium circuit. Where last week there was a db limit set, and some cars needed a muffler to reduce the noise, and now these 700bhp 599XX's and 860bhp FXX's are roaring like wild animals through the Arden forest. And then the best part still has to come, the Ferrari Formula One cars with their V10 engines.

I started this private Ferrari event around the track where normally it's strictly forbidden to go, because of safety reasons. On days like these, the marshals are easy going. Blanchimont, a very fast left hander, is an excellent corner to snap 2 (or more) cars in 1 shot. As the session starts, the rain started to fall and it became quite a challenge to snap the shot with multiple cars in it.

It's time to walk back through the wet grass, back to the pits where the XX Ferrari's also return to. Time to meet my American F1 Clienti friend, Bud, who I hadn't seen since November 2010. It was my first glance on his new car, a Rubens Barrichello driven Ferrari F1 car from 2003.

Because of the rain, most of the F1 cars don’t leave the box. Only a couple of private owners were brave enough to take their million dollar car out. One of them was Bud, who didn't come over all the way from the US to sit next to his car, counting raindrops. When he came back to the box, it turned out the Pirelli tires doesn't fit 100% tight to the rims that were designed for Bridgestone tires. But Bridgestone doesn't make these F1 tires any longer. The rubber was moving slightly along the rims.

When Bud had a word with Official Ferrari test driver Marc Gene, it was about time to arrange myself a wonderful experience, having a go in the Ferrari 599XX. It was only 4 laps as a passenger, but wow! It was really awesome! The gear shifts for example, were really up to the next level compared to the Ferrari F430, that I drove once myself. Also, the braking power, even in the wet, was pretty intense. On the straight, I had to watch the speed indication to find out we were doing 265km.h on the Kemmel straight. With a dry track, we should have more exit speed on Eau Rouge, having even a higher top speed. Am I complaining? Not at all!
