ILMC Autosport 6 Hours of Silverstone 2011Silverstone Pictures say more than words. One photo can have dozens of stories, but you need the pictures to create the story. As I scroll through the photos on my memory card, this weekend’s story starts to unfold.

It starts with a bus ride from the old to the new paddock. The British did a great job on this new pit building. But I wasn't there to inspect their construction work and taste of design, so back on the bus to car and find a spot around the track for the first shots of the weekend.

While waiting in the car for the GT qualify session, it started to rain. Luckily it stopped just before the session. Then a pretty strong wind made it very difficult to capture the cars on photo. During the closing stages, some more rain drops started to fall. I called it a day and went off to an American bar for dinner. While waiting for dinner, a waving American flag into a grey, cloudy sky took my attention… tomorrow it's 9/11, 10 years after…

September, 11 and I'm on the bus with Giancarlo Fisichella and Gianmaria Bruni. We're heading off to the pits, where the Warm Up will start in 15 minutes. This is a session that I mostly use for some pit lane action. Drivers come and leave the pits, while the mechanics practice a final fuel or tire stop.

After the autograph session, the British grid girls filled the grid. Strakka Racing brought their own quartet of girls with them. Some of the mechanics felt they were to hot to handle without gloves…

Then the race is about to set off. Whether it were the Strakka girls or a slippery track, I don't know, but as the warm up lap starts, Allan McNish spun the car straight away, while the #59 Luxury Ferrari almost did the same. As the light goes green the race is on. With great difficulties, I kept my 500mm in line with the cars, but the darn wind didn't made it easy.

All sorts of actions are going on. Peugeot and Audi battle for the lead, while bits and pieces flying off the cars elsewhere. Then the local guys from Strakka Racing passed by with a smoking rear tire. During a collision, one of the rear flaps was jammed, leaving them to an unscheduled pit stop.

I really like the Silverstone circuit, but simply couldn't find my twist for wonderful track shots. Almost everywhere I went, the background was too messy. I can't stand that for my Show Board. Only the greatest photos qualify to be added. After a while, I had enough of it and tried to find my luck in the pits again.

It seemed to work out. A few nice portraits and pit lane action by the mechanics resulted in a great coverage of this 6 hour race.
